The starting point for the design of Planmed Nuance Excel was user-oriented. The mammography system is a combination of latest imaging technology, high-end design, and comfort of use. The design of the system enables the user to define all the settings for the screening procedure while standing next to the patient, thus easing the often unpleasant procedure. “The various innovative and practical details, choice of material and the unified design reduce the uncomfortable feeling the patient might experience during the screening procedure”, describes Tapio Laukkanen, Planmed’s Industrial Designer. The prize jury evaluates the entries with regard to usability, responsibility and business aspects. The success in the competition was based on the core values of design, such as aesthetic properties, suitability to the visual environment and the way in which a product communicates the desired values. The organising bodies of the Fennia Prize design competition are Design Forum Finland and the Fennia Group. The purpose of the Fennia Prize is to support the manufacture of high-standard products and the quality of services to promote the competitiveness and internationalisation of industry. The objective is to present well-designed products and to encourage firms and companies to apply design in a comprehensive and interactive manner in product development, manufacturing, and the corporate image.
